As we know that the smoking is harmful to health. Smoking also affects the immunity of the human body. If you are a chain smoker then it weakens the immune system and leads to several health complications. Including lung cancer.
It is the main cause of preventable disease and disability that affects millions of deaths in the United States. There are about 34 million adults due to smoke tobacco cigarettes in the United States. Around 4.7 million high and middle-high school students use at least one tobacco product and 16 million of US people are living with some sort of smoking-related diseases.

There is no proof or study that evaluates the risk of correlation between smoking and SARS-CoV-2. But several other complications are linked with smokers which can increase the risk of getting infected by the coronavirus. Smoking also affects the improper functioning of the respiratory system, harmful for the heart, damage blood circulation, and many other complications such as
- Heart Attack
- Coronary heart disease
- Peripheral vascular disease (damaged blood vessels)
- Cerebrovascular disease (harm to arteries that carry blood to the brain)
Moreover, these are the secondary risk factors and smoking also contributes to the primary risk factors such as
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Smoking has damaged the respiratory system and when you are suffered from coronavirus people with weak respiratory systems and the immune system has increased the risk of getting infected with the coronavirus. Hence, if there is no definite evidence or relationship between coronavirus and smoking. But chain smokers are at a high risk of getting infected with the dangerous disease coronavirus.
Are smoking and Covid-19 are linked practically
Generally coronavirus enters the body via eyes, ears, anal, mouth, and nose. As we know normally smokers share their water pipes, cigars, cigarettes, bidis, and several other tobacco products. Moreover, the act of smoking also involves contact of fingers with lips. There are some of the activities that increase the risk of entering the virus into the body. In this way, the chain smokers are at a high for getting infected with Covid-19.
According to World Health Organization (WHO), there is no proof between Covid-19 and smoking. However, as per common sense, smoking involves several activities that help the virus to enter in the body and increase the risk of getting infected by this virus.
If any person uses smoking water pipes also called as hookah then it involves sharing the hoses and mouthpiece that facilitates the virus by spreading communal and social gatherings.
Symptoms of smoking tobacco are similar with Covid-19
Any kind of smoking tobacco will decrease the capacity of the lungs and enhancing the risk of respiratory problems. Similarly, coronavirus is a type of infectious disease that mainly harms the respiratory system especially the lungs in a body. Due to a weak immune system caused by smoking, it is difficult to fight against coronavirus. However, as per the study, there is no proof about the relationship between coronavirus and smoking tobacco.
Suggestions by WHO about chain smokers
As per World Health Organization (WHO), they advise that scientists or researchers, and the media should be careful about unverified claims that smoking tobacco reduces the risk of coronavirus. WHO recommends quitting tobacco is beneficial for lung and heart health.
If any tobacco users quit smoking for 12 hours then it reduces the level of carbon monoxide in the blood. After quitting for 2-12 weeks, it will improve the blood circulation which is beneficial for lungs function. Quitting tobacco also helps other people that living around you with your loved ones.
You should quit smoking tobacco that increases the risk of getting infected with Covid-19. WHO also suggests that avoid smoking tobacco that lowers the risk of coronavirus.
